Pest Preventing Tips
Pests can come into your home looking for things like food, water or just a warm place to stay. There are a number of pests that can get into your home, sometimes without you even really noticing until you have an infestation. Insects and rodents of different types may try to get into your home, but you can prevent this from happening by following the tips below.
Clean Up Clutter Inside
Clutter inside your home can provide warmth and a great nesting place for rodents or even bed bugs. If you have a lot of clutter around your home be sure to clean this up. Remove items from the floor as much as possible and put your belongings away. This includes in storage spaces such as basements. If you have a lot of storage, store your belongings inside plastic totes rather than cardboard boxes and keep them off of the floor.
Remove Clutter Outside
Clutter outside your home can also house rodents and other pests, which may end up in your house if you aren't careful. Remove piles of brush that are close to your home or near gathering spaces. If you have a compost pile, move it to the furthest part of your yard. Any other trash or piles should be removed as well. Keep trash cans away from your home and make sure your cans have a secure lid on them to prevent rodents or larger pests such as raccoons or opossums from coming into your yard.
Spray For Pests
Prevent pests such as fleas, ants, roaches, ticks and other insects from coming into your home by spraying a pesticide around the perimeter and even on the inside perimeter of your house as well. If you have a lot of trees in your yard, you may want to clip back any low-hanging branches, especially any that are laying low and over your house or patio. These low-hanging branches are a great bridge for ants and other insects to get to your home.
Inspect Your Home
Inspect your home often for pests or for signs of pests. Look for droppings, holes or cracks that can be used for entry points, and look for any damage such as boxes that have been chewed on or any nesting material (usually used by rodents). Keep a close eye on your home and look for these signs, then get rid of the pests you have yourself or call a professional pest control company, like Environmental Services Pest Control, for help.
